Succeeding at Photography. (Or anything in life)

Sunset on Taunton Green

As I shot this image tonight that you see here, I was looking out the window at sunset like I always do, and noticed the most spectacular color on the horizon. I unfortunately was in the process of making myself something to eat, and so I thought, oh well, there will be other gorgeous sunsets, right? I mean, I’m getting ready to eat something. I’m hungry!! I couldn’t let it go though. No matter how I tried to convince myself that it wasn’t a big deal, I couldn’t seem to let it go. I looked out the window twice more and the third time that I looked out, the clouds looked like they were reflecting the sun like they were clouds from Hades. I had to go, I just had to. I have learned by now that sometimes when you work hard you create your own luck. For some inexplicable reason, you work your butt off and out of the blue you get this kapow, where you have the most incredible moment of good fortune. That’s what I call kapow. I don’t have those super often, in fact I often get down on myself for working so hard with little result, but you know what? The harder I try the more they seem to occur. And so I’m also going to just bring up how those kapow moments don’t just happen in photography, although that just happens to be what I love, they happen that way with everything in life as well. Would you like to shoot an enviable shot? One that everyone seems to admire? Then get shooting. Get out there even when you don’t want to. Get out there even when you’re preparing dinner and you’re hungry, and I promise you something good will come of it. Namaste.

“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” Elliott Erwitt~1928
